What do I have to do to participate in one of the exchange programs as a theology student?

Contact persons for interested students are the ERAMUS-coordinators of the respective faculties, as well as the International Office of the Ruhr-Universität. The following procedure is recommended:

1. apply for an exchange place

Contact the ERAMUS coordinator of the faculty. The person in charge at the Faculty of Catholic Theology is Prof. Dr. Florian Bock.

For your application we need the following documents from you:

  • Application for participation in the exchange program,
  • Curriculum vitae in tabular form,
  • Letter of motivation (approx. 1 page, addressed to the ERAMUS-Commission of the Faculty of Catholic Theology; explanation of your motivation considering the questions: What are your goals in participating in the exchange program? What qualifies you in a special way for participation? Why did you choose the country, place of study or educational institution you did?)
  • Copy of your current enrollment certificate or student ID,
  • Proof of previous study progress and academic achievements (if already in MA or MEd program: copy of BA certificate),
  • Language certificate (DAAD language certificate or comparable proof of the required language skills or a short description of how you will acquire the necessary language skills by the beginning of the exchange stay).

Application deadlines

  • End of December for participation in the exchange program for an entire academic year (standard case) or for the winter semester in the following year,
  • End of June for participation in the exchange program in the summer semester of the following year.

2. course selection and learning arrangements

Discuss together with the ERAMUS-coordinator which courses are offered at the partner university and which courses you want to take. The coordinator will clarify with you in advance how your studies abroad will be recognized at the Faculty of Catholic Theology at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum after your return and will prepare the necessary documents with you.

3. application for a scholarship

In order to financially support students who plan to study abroad, the International Office awards scholarships. The application for such a scholarship is done via an online application directly at the International Office. The application deadline is usually the end of February each year. In some years the deadline is extended. Please contact the International Office for more information.
